What Works For You!

Many people fail to realize it but identifying your body type is probably one of the most important factors in looking good. There are many different shapes and sizes and many clothing options to compliment them all. Fellas, this includes you too!

There are four main shapes that describe women: Apple, Hourglass, Pear and Rectangle

You can identify your shape by taking measurements of your bust, waist and hips. Now that you have your measurements, let’s identify your shape.

Apple – If you have identified yourself as apple shaped, then you’re top-heavy. Your bust is three or more inches bigger than hips. With this body type, it’s recommended that you emphasize your legs and butt, draw attention away from your waist and shoulders/arms , and draw attention to your bust and neck.

The key to dressing an Inverted Triangle body type is to balance your broader shoulders, chest and back with your narrower lower body to create more of an hourglass effect. This is achieved by choosing clothes that add curves to your hips and bottom while creating a more defined waist. You have amazing legs so feel free to play with skirt lengths, but don’t go too short otherwise you will further a top-heavy look.

Rectangle – If your waist is about the same as your hips and waist, similar to a cylinder; you’re a rectangle. With this shape, you can “pinch” your waist and exaggerate curves to avoid looking boyish. Go for ruffles and frills to add texture and volume (and femininity) to your figure. Stay away from baggy jeans and track clothes if you don’t want to look like a little boy.

The key to dressing a Straight body type is to proportionally dress the top and bottom of your body while enhancing your waist. If you are comfortable doing so, you can wear form fitting clothing (such as a tube-type dress) and create a waist by adding a wide, dark belt. However, to create a more curvaceous effect add volume (or the illusion of volume) proportionally to your upper and lower body by mixing and matching.suggested separates.

Pear – Bottom-heavy women are generally pear shaped. Your hips are significantly larger than your bust. There are many things you can do to make your hips and butt look slimmer, if thats what you want. The key is the illusion of volume.

The key to dressing a pear body type is to enhance and add volume (or the illusion of volume) to your upper body while emphasizing your waist and de-emphasizing your lower body to create a balanced, hourglass appearance. Create the most curvaceous effect by mixing and matching our suggested separates.

Hourglass – This is shape is every girls dream. Hourglass shaped women have equal hips and bust measurements with a narrow waist. If this is you then all you have to do it dress to flatter. Enhance your beautiful vivacious curves.

The key to dressing an Hourglass body type is to proportionally dress the top and bottom of your body while accentuating your waist. Wide belts over shirts and dresses are a great way to show off your waist. You can create an even more curvaceous effect by proportionally adding a bit of volume to your upper and lower body, but always try to maintain balance since it is your best asset. You have great legs so feel free to play with skirt lengths.
